Job Description
Category Manager
If you're a great Category Manager or senior buyer with a background in beauty or cosmetics, you could be currently working in a supermarket for tesco, morrison or sainsbury or a specialist health and beauty retailler as an assistant buyer, category manager, senior category manager, or any blue chip major retailer and can demonstrate a sense of adventure.
Job Purpose:
To plan, organize, monitor and control the purchasing and retailing strategies related to the management of brands within the category and co-ordinate with vendors, producers and agents to ensure that all Beauty outlets/counters are optimally merchandised with inteational fragrances, cosmetics, skin care brands.
Accountability: Multi regional, multi brand and multi distributors
Budget (Operating/Capital): up to Aed 130m retail
Other: Extensive travel within the assigned region/countries and to Paris
No. of Subordinates: 3 Category executives and 3 Category coordinators
Principal Accountabilities:
Develop and agree annual plan and associated budget for select category, monitor performance against this, initiating corrective action where necessary to ensure operations are conducted within the agreed financial parameters. Take ownership of the assigned brands under the category from A to Z.
Analyse sales performance of previous years and do a brand wise cost-benefit study to formulate a business plan, based on projected sales tuover & fore cast figures of stocks required, to enable the company to decide on the quantity and variety of brands/ products to be purchased.
Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place to cover key areas of purchasing activity for designated category and effective systems are in place for monitoring compliance with all procedures to ensure effective working at all times.
Negotiate with local and inteational suppliers on product pricing, payment terms, cost of freight, provision of training, and the extent of their involvement in advertising and promotions, to decide on placing a purchase order with the supplier for the conceed product/brand.
Conduct store and new site visits to analyse customer profile and agree on store relay for existing brands as well as recommend new commercially viable brands.
Review and approve the forecasts for the Pareto category A&B, monitor forecast accuracy and obtain approvals from the Operations team on a periodic basis.
Conduct ongoing reviews to ensure stocking levels are in line with the forecasted sales, take corrective measures to reduce ageing/ slow moving/obsolete stock.
Identify and initiate clearance proposal of products, gain approval from the Purchase Manager and intimate Category Executive for appropriate execution.
Analyse market trends, consumer preferences , sell through, seasonal demands etc to formulate a buying practice in line with consumer /store demands.
Guide, train and develop subordinates to perform to their maximum potential.Key Performance Indicators:
Viability of Category business plans formulated and the accuracy of forecast and budgeting.
Successful negotiations with suppliers.
Stock tuaround and months cover.
Successful brand/product launches, events and activities.
Competent and Motivated Staff
Knowledge Skills and Experience:
Graduate in any discipline, preferably Commerce.
Communication and interpersonal skills
Computer Literacy
Excellent command of English; Knowledge of Arabic advantageous.
Excellent negotiation, numerical and Analytical skills.
5 to 7 years experience as category manager / executive within the retail industry
