Role Profile

Position: Health Club & Spa Manager
Reporting To: Hotel General Manager

Essential to the position will be the necessary experience and a proven track record in the following three areas of competence

1. Operational excellence: Preferably in a Health Club or Spa environment.
2. Commercial acumen: With additional experience in the field of Sales and Marketing
3. People: Demonstrate a proven track record in effective leadership and team management development

GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for managing, supporting and motivating The Health Club & Spa Team to deliver an outstanding member and guest experience, consistently exceeding expectations. Initiate, implement and monitor processes and procedures to ensure the effective operation, development and profitability of The Health Club & Spa.

1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Working relationships / Communication
• Provides direct support to Hotel General Manager and The Health Club & Spa team.
• Interacts and communicates effectively with all members of the Health Club & Spa team, Members, hotel guests, peer group and regional support functions. Works closely to establish strong links with Key Corporate Team members.
• Works closely to establish strong links with local businesses, suppliers & the local community.
• Establishes effective communication practices and channels

B. Key Responsibilities

Commercial
• Work with the General Manager, to establish sound business plans and accurate interim forecasts, producing reports on performance as required.
• Regularly measure and review of The Health Club & Spa activity, providing guidance and action plans to exceed financial targets and key business performance indicators.
• Ensure a sound knowledge of the market to maintain an awareness of any potential threats and opportunities.
• Effective planning and delivery of sales, marketing and promotional activity to maximise all revenue opportunities in line with business objectives.
• Achieve membership sales targets by generating sales leads and ensuring your team convert prospects to club members.
• Undertake such other duties as the General Manager, may from time to time reasonably require.
People
• Responsible for the recruitment and induction of The Health Club & Spa Team members in line with deployment and budget requirements.
• Identify training and development needs for the team to add value to the business and to develop team member potential.
• Deliver training sessions & Ensure performance management processes are established and appraisals are undertaken to assist with the career development, progression and succession planning of The Health Club & Spa team.
• You will need to ensure that the club is adequately staffed at all times, taking into consideration the volume of business..
• Key to the role is the training and development of club staff to deliver an exceptional level of customer service and to assist members in achieving their health and fitness goals

Other responsibilities include ensuring the club remains compliant with health and safety policy, with the financial audit and with employment legislation.


2. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Knowledge, skills and abilities
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills – ability to work and interact at all levels of the organisation and external environment.
• Established operational experience within the leisure/hospitality sector.
• Sound financial / management understanding
• Excellent selling & communication skills both orally and in writing.
• Training, development and coaching skills with the ability to delegate effectively, influence and achieve results through others.
• Creativity, drive and initiative. Ability to maintain effectiveness in a pressurised environment and translate opportunities into action plans.
• Commercial awareness and customer focus.
• Able to work flexibly to suit the hours and needs of the business.
• Able to travel away from home, attend meetings and training workshops as and when required.

B. Minimum experience / education level
• Minimum of five years experience in a commercial business environment with a proven track record.
• Experience of working in a leisure / spa environment and holding an industry related qualification is desirable.
• Pre-opening experience preferred (not essential)
• Experience of managing teams of c8+
• Computer literate
